Algodon Wine Estates (AWE), an award-winning Argentinean wine and golf estate in San Rafael, Mendoza, offers a personalized wine barrel program that might just be the ideal wedding gift. The ring and the ceremony are nice, too--but making it "official" with customized wine labels offers something refreshingly new that won't be the norm with one's other married friends and peers.
The way it works: Customers visit AWE's website (http://www.algodonwines.com/barrelprogram/index) where they first choose a type of barrel (French or American oak) and then the design and name of the label, over which they have complete creative control. Once bottled and labeled, the wine is shipped to the customer's preferred location. Each barrel provides 288 bottles of wine and can be filled up to three times. The program also includes a two-night stay at the lodge located on the estates.
Grape varieties include Argentinean classics such as Bonarda - known throughout Argentina for its full body - and Malbec, as well as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay.
Already a huge success globally, personalized barrels at Algodon Wine Estates have been bought by dozens of people around the world including representatives of European royalty and owners of one of France's leading luxury brands.
