When it comes to the world’s best golf regions, Scotland and several US destinations come to mind including Palm Springs, Pinehurst, Naples, Scottsdale and Alabama’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. While no such golf mecca exists in South America, we learned last year that PGA Tour officials were setting their sights on the Deep South (America).

PGA officials have been traveling throughout South America trying to figure out how to launch a Latin American circuit similar to the Nationwide Tour. Upon hearing the news, we made the case for staging the majority of the events in Argentina and Uruguay, the two South American countries with the best quality of life, year-round climate and quality golf courses.

Now a group of Argentina’s leading vineyard developments are stepping to the tee box and taking the first swing at showcasing Mendoza as the ideal setting for such golf tournaments. In the process, the host vineyards will be showcasing the truly unique experience of playing golf among the vineyards in the shadow of the Andes.

Golf on the Wine Trails (Golf por los Caminos de Vino) will take place this fall and feature national and international golfers facing off on four of the best golf courses in Mendoza: Tupungato Winelands (April 18), Algodon Wine Estates (April 28), La Vacherie Country Golf (May 12) and Atamisque (May 19). Event organizers acknowledge the strong overlap between golf and wine lovers and a collective desire to make Golf on the Wine Trails a year-round attraction for Mendoza tourism.
