This May 3rd, City Winery (CW), New York City's first and only wine-making facility, will join forces with Algodon Wine Estates (AWE), Argentina's premier wine and golf estate, for an unprecedented Argentine wine-crushing event.

AWE is currently shipping six tons of Malbec and Bonarda grapes from its vineyards in Mendoza (winner of the 2008 wine region of the year award from Wine Enthusiast) to New York to be crushed and made into wine in New York City for the public to see. This will be CW's (and New York's) first international grape crush, and to celebrate the event, CW will be producing the first annual Mendoza Crush Fest for the public on Sunday, April 26. In addition to the crushing of the grapes, the day will include a traditional Argentine asado (barbecue), a live tango performance on CW's stage and a selection of more than 30 different wines from Argentina (provided by Wines of Argentina), in addition to wine from AWE. During the event, guests will be able to place orders with all participating wineries through Acker Merrall & Condit, the sponsoring wine retailer for the event.

"After the great success we had in bringing in grapes from the west coast, we really wanted to push the envelope and branch out to one of the most exciting wine regions in the world right now, Mendoza, with their uniquely delicious Malbecs," says Michael Dorf, Founder of City Winery.

"Algodon Wine Estates is an exciting and innovative concept, offering customers the option to own a piece of an Argentine vineyard and their own, personalized Argentine wine; City Winery offers customers the option to own their personal wine label as well, and is one-of-a-kind in New York City," says Scott Mathis, Chairman of DPEC Partners and InvestProperty Group (IPG), the venture capital firm backing Algodon Wine Estates. "I cannot think of a more fitting place to showcase Algodon Wine Estates' wine and overall concept."

The event will take place May 3rd at City Winery at 155 Varick Street, from 3pm to 10pm.
