U.S. citizens are loving Argentina more and more these days. And the government doesn’t want that to end anytime soon. More than 200,000 U.S. citizens visited the country in the first six months of the year, an 18 percent increase from the same period last year, according to Clarín. The paper credits the increase at least in part to Obama’s visit to Argentina in March and the warmer relations between the two countries.

The figure means the first six months of the year were close to the peak of 227,000 visitors reached in the first six months of 2008, which marked the highest number in a quarter century. And the government wants the flow to continue, with the goal of reaching half a million U.S. tourists per year.
